Portrait of the IRP Foundation

For more than 15 years the IRP Foundation has undertaken fundraising activities for financing the best research projects worldwide, selected by a Scientific Committee (IRP Scientific Committee)) of international experts. There is one single objective driving our activities: to overcome paraplegia, step by step.

In Switzerland there are more than 8’000 men and women, mainly young people, who have lost the use of their limbs. For many centuries, paraplegia was considered a definitive, irreversible condition. Nowadays scientists around the world are learning better to understand the mechanisms governing communication between the brain and the different parts of the body. Remarkable progress has been made recently and there is more to come, with decisive implications for the future.

IRP spares no efforts to do everything possible for paraplegia no longer to be an unavoidable fate. It funds:
